I had a T2, great vehicles, loved it and it was great off road.

Things to check are the Clutch, other than that, there is not a lot that goes wrong.

I did have a turbo go, but the guy at the garage was amazed he said he had never replaced one and it was just bad luck.

One way of looking at it is to use it till it breaks beyond economical repair. Then all you can loose is the purchase price less £150 for weighing it in for scrap. If it lasts you a couple of years, that's seriously cheap motoring.

I've got a 1999 SWB Terrano 2.7TDI & love it to bits :POn the road it handles like a hot hatch (thats running on falken AT's) My 6ft2" tall son fits in the back no probs & has plenty of leg room :DOff road it has been fine & it has surprized me where it can go with out any probs when following sptb in his modded Maverick (which is up for grabs if anyone is interested) I would say go & have a look & take it for a test drive

My dad's just bought one but his is on a 52 plate, 3.0 TDI so much power it's unbelievable!

I know what my personal text over there <<< says but it is lovely, so comfy, nice and warm, and very spacious!

Only thing I would warn you about though...not sure if that model's the same as my dad's but his is only 2 wheel drive in high box obviously there's a 4wd high and low but for roads they recommend 2wd...be very careful as it can be very trouser-staining with a big motor drifting around a roundabout in the wet as my dad found out!

+2" Bearmach blue springs, +2" ProComp ES9000 Shocks, 31x10.50R16 Colway MT's, Heavy Duty steering arms, Safari snorkel, Midland CB radio, Extended bump stops, fully chequer plated rear.

Soon to have:
Full length roof rack, more lights than you can shake a stick at, +2" spacers, 2" lowered twin shock turrets, dislocation cones all round, Heavy duty bumpers. Possibly bigger tyres (Much bigger!!!) and more than likely body lifts etc.

Your Dad'a rear diff oil prob needs changing as it sounds as if the rear LSD is locking up which is common when the oil gets old & past it :D

Was changed at the last service which was December '07 so it's not that it's down to the fact that it was wet and in 2WD it's RWD...

Alot of garages put the wrong oil in this inclued the Nissan dealers  mine has started to get a bit tail happy but it is due the diff oil changing soon but I don't mind to much because it's like driving my old capri but the Terrano is far easier to get back in a straight line again

Gotta be worth a look.

I like my Terrano 2 petrol more than the Disco tdi I had.

Handles well on road, well did until i removed the arb's.

Got 31" tyres on without any mods.

Goes very well when Greenlaning too.
Cheers, Nathan.
