Vitara Snorkel
« on: September 25, 2008, 17:11:38 »
Looking to fit a snorkel to our Vit, I intend to use 2" flexi pipe, free from work you see, but would like a bit of info on best way to go about it.

Do I knock out the air filter box and fit a new filter to the top of the snorkel, if so what's a good filter, or do I connect to the air filter inlet on the inner wing and keep the existing filter, if so, do I need to seal the existing filter to make it water tight.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Knock the airbox off,

cut a hole in the wing, tread hose through and jubilee clip directly onto the air intake.

bung a K&N filter on the top.

That's kinda what I was looking at, just wondered if there was any alternatives, but if that's tried and tested, then it's a simple task, jobs a good un, cheers.

Just an afterthought, what about the electrical box job on the intake, is it Ok to bin that, is just a temperature control thing?

you will need to keep the air flow sensor else the engine wont run 100% but anything after is fair game to lose

Hi, there is a very well documented installation for a DIY snorkel listed on the broadlands rhino site (broadlands changes to norfolkrhino) on a vit called vicky.  Also saw the same piece in a 4X4 mag some years ago.

Not wanting to plug the site, but there are several pictured documents showing various DIY mods to vits on the site

Hope it's of some use to you, cheers.

well the air intake pipe runs from the pasenger side across the top of the engine to the drivers side so just thought that it would be easier and would offer cooler air to the engine by running the pipe out the drivers side as dont need to keep any of the standard pipe work.
