hard tuff paints???

im after some realy strong hard paint, hopefuly in black, to paint my axles and maybe chassis

as its going to go on my disco its got to stick to metal like poo poo to a blanket..... i know hammerite is good but dont think its strong enough



what sort of paint do they use on the origanal axles when they come out of the factory.... that seems to stay on for years and takes a good pounding

I suspect it's powder coated rather than painted in the traditional sense.

plasticoat is waaaaaaaaaaaay better! get some of that and you cant go wrong!

You don't want a hard paint like hammerite because it chips off. Try coach paint because it is soft and plyable when dry, Croda paint from an agricultural engineers, is very good.

Powder coating should be cheaper than buying Hammerite, and quicker, better looking.
Have a look about you should have a good powedr coater near you but shop around

watch painting the chassis, i may be corrected but once had a car which was a bit scabby underneath. i cleaned it all down well ,used think it was finnigans rust beater or something then an under seal . but it sweated under the paint id put on and made it twice as bad . cleaned it all off and sprayed it with old engine oil ..which seemed better ..

The axles, and 'hockey sticks' are powder coated - by Malcolm enammelers (fancy name - sh*t hole to deliver to)
I used to take about 4000 hockey sticks in a day to be powder coated as the company that makes them - Dudley drop forge (Now stokes's forgings) had my old employer as the sole transport.
Lotus, Triumph, Jaguar etc all use the same place
