Air Ambulances
« on: October 15, 2008, 13:22:16 »
Just thought I'd share this with you all as the Air Ambulances benefit from many of our activities.

Just had a customer in who's son was taken off his bicycle by a refuse truck in February. The truck driver realised what happened and immediately stopped...... with the back wheels right on top of him

He is still being 'worked on' by the hospital, but is nearing full health. His father said that he would have died if it hadn't been for the Air Ambulance. The ordinary ambulances wouldn't take him because of the back injury and risk of further, possibly fatal, damage from bumpy roads.

I was surprised how I reacted to his story. All the pictures you see on the Air ambulance stands at shows don't get close to hearing a story like this from a parent. Makes me proud to be a tiny part of raising funds from time to time for this worthy cause.

Keep up the good work everyone.
Rgds

As a member of the local Coastguard Rescue Team we use the air ambulance quite regularly. It used to be the RAF search and rescue that was sent to us but as there is now only one in Wales (up north) the jobs fall to the air ambulances.

It can be a bit of a pain for us, as the RAF ones can winch casualties out but the Air Ambulances can't, so we end up with extended stretcher carries out to a suitable location, but they do get to the hospital a lot quicker.

these guys do an excellent job and really do need our support.

Wholeheartedly support all the work they do.
When you live in an area away from "civilisation", ie any of Mid Wales, then you realise how important they are.

Powys 4x4 Response have picked Wales Air Ambulance as their "favoured" charity, and have recently given them a cheque for £1000, raised at various of our Events.

A very worthy cause indeed, we raised a total of £1536 for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance at this years Birthday Bash in August, thanks to everyone who came to the event and gave so generously.

Interesting, I have only experience of being in a helicopter, I was pull from a welsh Mountian when I was 14 the thing I remember most is how bumpy the ride was, Although that could have been because I was strap in to a stretcher and very disorientated from the fall,

Air Ambulance is a worthy cause and so are Air sea(mountain) recue.

We see quite a lot of the local Air Ambulance & know the (Paramedics & Doctors) crews quite well, one of the regular Doctors is an ex-Specialist Registrar of ours.

I ought to add that it's the Yorkshire one, that features in the morning TV show 'Helicopter Heroes', that we see.

The crews have a few tales to tell, I can assure you.

We had it in this morning, with a lady from an 'Equestrian related incident' & I saw the Paramedic down at the Pharmacy.
It was amusing to see people look at him, you could tell they were thinking 'I'm sure 've seen him on TV!?'
