Manual gearbox to Auto?
« on: October 15, 2008, 18:30:04 »
I want to change from my manual gearbox to an auto one that I have lying around, anyone got any ideas of how easy or hard it might be & what problem I may come across?

Its a 1993 V8 3.9EFI Range Rover & the auto box is out one the same year & model.

Auto pedal box, kickdown attatchments, cubby box and auto surround, propshaft?, flex plate, all need changing off the top of my head ls the wiring for starter inhibitor.
Prob loads more but more change bits and spanner work than chopping things about

I was thinking that you could just remove the clutch pedal from the pedal box & fit a larger brake pedal. I've also got an auto surround.

Pedal box is the same though the pedal is wider, but you need the kickdown cable.

Starter inhibit, reversing wiring

tune select resister for the EFi and gear select wiring for the same

gearbox oil cooler in the rad and "hairy sausage"

fluid coupling, flex plate and adapter

tunnel insert (rubber) and console insert, transfer box selecter bracket

I'm sure there's other stuff

Well the manual box is out but once the cross member was removed it revealed a little bit of rot on the chassis so now that has to be done before we can proceed. It was also bloody cold the other day, we must have picked the worst week to do it...........

I've got all the parts from a donor vehicle so I should be ok, also changed the gearbox seals as I didn't fancy having to remove it again if it leaked.
