IRD Gone for a burton ??

 Hi all gota 2000 reg TD4 freelander ( Manual)

  When parking up on lock, it "binds" like difflock on a "normal" Landy, No strange noises ( yet  8-[ )
  I Am guessing the IRD/Transfer box thingy seizing up  [-o<  :'(

 If so rough prices  :shock:

We have a "warranty" with the car but  In my past experiences of brought warranties i reckon they will weedle out of it 

  Anyidea of how to deal with um to achieve the proper outcome ?   Go in all guns blazing with prices and facts or act dumb to start with ??

Is it binding up completely, or are you merely feeling some resistance? Resistance when maneuvering at slow speeds on a full lock is normal in a FL (usually more noticeable in reverse).

What you are experiencing is probably the VCU doing it's job. It certainly won't be the IRD. If that goes bang you have NO drive at all.

If you wish to check the VCU is not siezed, jack up one back wheel and with the car in first, hand brake off, attempt to turn the wheel using a socket and 3' breaker bar on the central hub nut. If the VCU is correct you should JUST be able to move the wheel. If it will not move at all then the VCU has gone phut.

For a quick cure remove the VCU and both prop shafts.

VCU - £300ish
IRD - £700ish

 i noticed it mainly when tight turning into a parking spot ( forwards) if i dip the clutch on the way in it will bring it to a halt much before our 90, disco, or nova  :lol:
 But seems to roll in a straight line ok

 But not actually locking a wheel or nowt nasty like that, Maybe "normal" for a F/L   :?    just dont feel "right" to me,

   Tis going in for a service tuesday to a reptuble independant landy garage so i guess i will hear the outcome then  8-[  

 Did not want to use for work tomorrow if it seemed like  impending doom   ;)

If it is doing that then you have nothing to worry about......they all do it.
As LR would say "That is a characturistic of the vehicle, sir!"

 We certainly "do muddy" With no problems,  just want to check the motor is hunky dorey before hand  :D
