Quick question about bolts

Another of my stupid questions- now I have drilled out my rusty bolts holding the hinges on I'm ready to tap the holes ready for replacements. But what spec are they? I thought they were 5/16 BSF but it turns out they aren't.....Haynes manual is no help.

You won't get very far trying to tap them. The hinges are held on by captive nuts that slot into the bulkhead, you need to get another set of them and remove the old ones before fitting the new.

There doesn't seem to be a straightforward way to get at the captive nuts to replace them. If fact I've already tapped the holes- just with the wrong size tap (very slightly too small)

They should just unclip and slip out of a square rectangular hole between the two holes in the bulkhead.

I'm rather struggling with this unclipping business- there doesnt seem to be enought space to slide teh captive nut up to the hole.
What am i doing wrong?

Have you tried twisting it as you pull it so you like slide it off and round out of the hole, if i remeber the holes are a little rectangular shaped, iff not they sould just bend out the way
