hi my mate has just brought a 200 disco he asked me if it was normal for the engine to get very hot when in difflock. it dousnt sound right to me my defender dousnt do that has anbody got any ideas  :huh:

does it only get hot in difflock? .thats a strange 1 its more like the radiator is blocked up or you are missing the little fins in the rad that help keep it cool

there must be some sort of stress on the engine when diff lock  is on ie gearbox whine up ?

i will ask him tomorow were he has been driving it in difflock perhaps he has been on the road driving it . he is new to this type off thing .we are going offroad this sunday to aston cantlow i hope he is in the AA

Is there an oil res on the side of the rad, should have two pipes screwed on there if its a diesel,now i think they are somthing to do with the tansfer box,i could be wrong,but im betting its either not there or its got no oil,oh i have just noticed you have a 200 i have a 300 so it could well be different,in front of the rad is the one for my auto box,so i reckon its transfer box cooling off the top of my head.please correct me if im wrong just thought to myself it could be PAS fluid cooling,now im confused,im going to look it up i will be back in a bit

Im totally wrong its nothing to do with the transfer box its the turbo charger/engine oil cooler,the mystery deepens my man,im at a loss here,sorry.

Could it be a bad engine earth.
16 year old lad building his own defender.

I am now 17 with a rolled defender

it turns out he has been driving it on hard ground all day in difflock im gessing the gearbox was so wound up it was about to blow :shocked:
