Bad vibration and reverberating.
« on: October 26, 2008, 20:16:41 »
We have just been out in our 2000 Td5 Disco, it has 118,000 on the clock.  We started getting a little knocking at 30-40mph.  We then started getting it at all speeds, really bad.
Then it got worse, we stopped at lights and the whole car was shaking and reverberating.  Worse through the steering wheel.  We drove about 1/4 mile to a garage, as we drove up the kerb there was a loud bang, and the knocking/shaking stopped, but we got a puff of black smoke from the exhaust.  We then drove about 100 miles home without a peep!!!
It didnt matter what speed we were doing, whether in gear or neutral, clutch in or up, it vibrated.
Weve ruled out the following for the reasons explained.
Fault                         Reason
UJ's                                          Vibrated when static
Props                                       Vibrated when static
Missfire                                    Revs OK when idle or revved
Diffs                                         Vibrated when static
Duel Mass FW                          Brand new 500 miles ago
Clutch                                      Brand new 500 miles ago
Transfer/Gearbox                    Vibrated with clutch depressed, isolating drive train

Would a jammed exhaust cause this?  We did some serious off roading last week, and the car hasnt been used since!

Avoid employing unlucky people......simply bin half the applications!!!
