AXLE Defender Vs Disco Parts

Following a trip away and a return via an AA truck. I have melted a front wheel bearing. This has damaged the stub axle and hub and also snapped the drive shaft/CV joint.

I have added the cost of all the parts up and was thinking i would cost less to get another Axle. This way I get a second diff and other parts for next time. My local scrap Yard has a 200tdi Disco.
Do any of the disco parts fit into a defender 200tdi axle ?

If the axles are of the same age then all the bits you have damaged will swap over. I would however, keep the Defender swivel housing and swivel pins as the top ones are larger than Discovery ones.

If the axle off the disco has the same width C bars as your 90 then its a straight swop over, some have 40mm thick others have 45mm thick, your calipers from the 90 should bolt right on to the disco axle, ive fitted loads of disco axles to 90s and 110s never had any issues, dont forget to move the steering damper of the disco axle as its behind the diff, yours should be fitted to the drag tube in front of the diff,

From what I remember the wheel bearings in the Defender axle are further apart than on the Disco/RRC axle so the bubs/stub axles can't be swapped.  This makes the Defender axle stronger for using big tyres etc.

But you can just pull the stub axle/driveshafts out of one and bolt them onto tthe end of the other, been there done that.  In addition you can stick some alloys on if you fit a Disco axle.
