Citroen Berlingo !!!
« on: November 03, 2008, 16:20:38 »
Not really what you'd expect to be on a forum such as this, but some of you must run or have experience of the Berlingo & I'm in research mode  :)

What I want to know is - does anyone run a Berlingo 1.9D , a Berlingo 2.0HDi or any of the new generation of Berlingo vans - the 1.6HDi in either the New Berlingo or the Berlingo First incarnations ?

I'm after mpg figures under real time running & also performance indications. Is the 1.9D underpowered ? How thirsty is the 2.0HDi ? etc etc .

I've seen the official figures & been told figures by the dealers but it'd be nice to hear from actual users.

Also - anybody working as a self-employed courier at the moment ?

SWMBO ran a 1.9d one for 4 years, returned around 40mpg all the while, a bit slow on acceleration but once up to speed wasn't bad. We sold it to our neighbours who tried pulling a small caravan with it and found it very lacking in grunt. The 2.0 hdi though returns very similar figures and has lots of go that's the one I would favour on the basis of no substitute for cubes !! I think they need a turbo to get the power so the 1.6 may be OK but I have never tried one.

I'd say that the 2.0 HDi is the engine to go for. Drove a 1.9 Berlingo to an MOT and it was gutless.

How about a Dangel 4x4 Berlingo?  You can get them with an axle difflock and crawler gear if memory serves right.  Should fit in here alright, and rase a few eyebrows.

 Never heard of a Dangle - until now that is !!!  http://www.dangel.com/vehicule_pro_en.html

Well I managed to drive a Berlingo 1.6HDi & I have to say the performance was very impressive - tons of quiet, smooth power. That was the 75bhp version & they produce a 90bhp as well so that must be outstanding ! Been told 40 - 50 mpg but have to find that out for myself.

Thanks for the replies
