It never ceases to amaze me, sorry, I should say disgust me, when I read stuff like that.
Any desecration of any place of worship is beneath contempt. I have never been a religous person in any way, but I believe in respect being shown.
There has been a serious moral decline in this country over the last few years.Disgusting.

one thing that i am always amazed about is when you visit the  war memorials overseas in europe and how immaculate they are kept,  then you see what happens in this country.  wasn't there a case where a woman tried to stop some kids vandalising something and got prosecuted herself instead?

always really upsetting to hear about things like that

I recently went over to France on a battlefield tour of the Somme. I never cease to be amazed at the way that the CWGC look after the war cemetaries. They are pristine.
The same can be said for the memorials and graveyards dedicated to the French, other allied countries and also the German burial grounds.
It was a very sobering and moving experience.

Attached are a couple of pics I took at the memorial to the Newfoundland regiment who were decimated during the Battle of the Somme.
The statue is of a caribou (representing the dominion of Newfoudland) calling for her lost young.
I don't often get tears in the eyes, but seeing this was one of those moments.

I've been there too, very moving.

The German cemetaries are very sombre - instead of immaculate white marble stones they have dark granite memorials and a general air of sadness. While the CWGC sites are obviously moving they have, to me, an air of commemoration - a service of thanks for the life of rather than an obituary, if that makes any sense.
