Scorpion Racing ?
« on: November 18, 2008, 19:57:32 »

Was looking at an advert the other day (can't actually remember what it was for now ), and went onto the Scrapion website - which says 'under new management', and has a new address (they were somewhere on the North Circular, although I've never been there myself)...........now at an address in Cheshunt. Seeing as Cheshunt is just down the road from me, and I go that way 2 or 3 times a week, I thought I'd check it out - nothing, no sign of Scrapion Racing, just a closed up 'small-boy' car parts shop.

Have Scorpion finally gone down the pan ?

They have had some issues, last I heard there was new management?? And that suppliers had some letters??

To my mind however, If you want a piece of kit that's made by another, I would buy direct from the maker! I have heard to many horror stories about their own make stuff!

I think they would do better if they brought their prices in line with the rest of the planet and then published them in their advertising. Anyone who promotes parts in their adverts without prices is suggesting they are expensive IMHO. I've only ever once phoned them and was horified by their pricing! And their stands at shows are little better. All very flash and glitzy, but little in the way of pricing to give you a clue. These days, I just walk on by.

As someone in the retail automotive industry, I am not impressed by their approach..... in case you hadn't guessed

Why oh why can't they post prices on their website - are they hiding something?

Very suspect if you ask me!

Simply because they are uncompetitive.  They have been charging the earth tot he stickers and stripe brigade for years and tried it on with $X$ owners, who it appears are not so thick.  Scrapion don't make anything you can't get somewhere else, plus I think they offended a lot of people ripping off X-Eng designs and passing themoff as their own.

Last Peterborough show i priced up KN filter 300 tdi, scorpion had note on filter stand which said KN filters ask for show prices, yes their show price was £82,i obtained one for £57 from another supplier,i don't see the point of paying through the nose when there are lots of other suppliers willing to do deals.

Let's just make sure this discussion stays in hand (not that anyone has said anything which indicates otherwise at present) but there are a large number of people affected by this, existing staff and the creditors list for a start and we should consider them accordingly :(

Quite right, of course. I think what has been said so far may be a reflection of why this has happened. There are only so many people willing to pay extra for brand identity. When that market dries up (maybe a sign of the times?) companies with pricing policies like Scorpion will suffer.

Obviously, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But, I can't say it's at all surprising to me that this has happened.
