300tdi into series 2a
« on: November 22, 2008, 22:03:34 »
Well after getting a £700 quote to get me disco through an mot i decided that seeing as how the engine seized in the 2a (which was a 200tdi conversion) i might as well stick this engine in and make 1 working motor out of the 2!!!

Any differences that i should know about???

The engine mounts are slightly different from memory, and I don't think they are interchangeable. The 300tdi has Exhaust Gar Recirculation and a fly by wire throttle, but this can be converted using the 200Tdi throttle cable. The 300tdi also has different pipework for the air intake and a few other bits which may need fiddling with to get to fit.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info, gibve me a shout.

later 300tdi s have the drive by wire my early 300 tdi doesnt just the normal cable connection to the injector pump
the down pipe is different on the 300 aswell  and I think youll have to change the clutch housing on the back of the engine and swap it for the 200tdi one

Ok, I am in college all tomorrow teaching about fish! What joy! But will get back to you when I can. Im interested because one of the projects I have just started - between customers cars has started with a very much shortened Disco chassis anda 300tdi Disco engine, so not far removed from your IIa.

Nope, doesnt look like its happening :(  he dont wanna take on that kind of job :(

So now i have to sell the disco, which is a shame cos its a very low mileage engine!

Pity you don't live nearer as I would give you a hand for sure, it shouldn't be that hard to do if there is a 2000Tdi in there already.

I would attempt it myself if i had half a clue of even where to begin, or even the tools to do the job!

But alas its not meant to be, so selling them both and maybe buy a v8 rangie on lpg for trundling in!!

Try it yourself, it really isnt too hard to do. The hardest bit will be lining the engine up with the box and mounts as you will have to replace the mounts. If not, how much do you want for the 300tdi Disco, collected and cash?

Basically i would like enough for both of them in order to get a replacement vehicle.

Something like a v8 rangie auto on lpg, that would be nice!

The series has some extra bits with it (look in the for sale section) and is on ebay for £750 buy it now, but as i say, as long as i can get a motor with the money from both then i would happy!!
