I am thinking about rebuilding my 90 next year starting with a new Galvanized chassis.
I have been looking into the SVA thing and wanted to see what other people had done.

It would seem that you have to provide an invoice for all major parts of the car.
How do people do this ? I will be using all the running gear from my 90 but was going to look for second hand body bits, Bulk head and a 300Tdi engine.

As everyone will know, if you look, you can find bits at landrover sortouts etc but they don't come with an Invoice, If you buy a used landrover, how do you or the DVLA know its on its original Axles for example.

It seems like such an impossible task for anyone building a landrover on a budget using second hand parts. I am now starting to think I will just by a newer landrover.

as far as I am aware if your just rebuilding a car to original spec then no need fopr a SVA but if you bob tail a rangie for example then because you have changed the car significantly that potentialy there could be dangerous body work sticking out you need a sva and check all chassis welding etc is road worthy, hence why some accident damaged cars need a sva before going back out on the road, to probve they ave been mended properly.

seems as long as you use a "new" chassis no probs with a receipt for the purchase of chassis.

That looks like a good link and the VIC seems the most likley issue you could face. I agree that SVA is not really needed as you are not modifying the chassis from "type" approved.

To be honest I bet most people wouldn't even do a VIC check, after all its not like you are sticking a tax exempt chassis on a new body or using a written off VIN etc so your really only giving it a very very very good clean.

Looking at it as carbore has said, it will be getting a very very good Clean, with a few newer parts and a standard but new chassis.

I think the build will cost me around £3500 so I don't want to end up with a landrover that I cant use because of some jobs worth at the DVLA wanting me to get a VIC or SVA and then it fails because of a lack of paperwork to prove the age of all the parts.
