Basically, I volunteer with Cumbria CC Countryside team, we installed some new stiles to aid access to an area of "Open Access Land" near junction 36 of the M6. Two weeks after installing this is what has been done, we presume by "local" dog walkers, why I cannot imagine.

Probably find that it's either people who don't like the idea of access land or the same sort of idiots who trash bus shelters.

Hmmm.

Seems, like 4x4 owners dont like Ramblers, Ramblers dont like dog walkers, dog walkers dont like family walks, Mountian bikers are unpopular and Farmers hate everyone.

Now as a Landowner with ROW accross my land, at the end of a green lane, owning a 4x4, liking walks in the countryside, and having a dog where so I stand?

Rather than asume its a person from a group, id just say "vandals" (oh yes no doubt with hoods on as we like to demonise the young if we cant find a better solution)

Loads of them down my way. Their latest trick is 'driving by bricking'. I jest ye not. Some poor unfortunates got their cars trashed by senseless iced gems lobbing bricks at their cars. Morons.

Pictures are after, the reason finger is pointed at Dog walkers,

Ramblers Association paid thousands to have them installed
There is no access for a vehicle anywhere onto the land other than via the farmers yard, past his house througha number of gates.
The site is literally miles from anywhere so not reasonable to suspect hoodies

All agreements got before they were installed, farmwr agreed, landowner agreed etc etc.

Just mindless assumed that the dog couldn't manage the stile, my spaniel can and did and whoever managed to pull the stile out would have no bother lifting a dog

Looking on the bright side, that's thousands they are not putting into the anti 4x4 lobby.

s'funny, I was talking to someone on the train this morning about this - and bird-watchers, horse riders, cyclists, 4x4 drivers, trail bike riders etc. and we reached the consensus that everyone is willing to share except the ramblers - they want it all to themselves.

Someone I know who owns a pub in a small village hates ramblers because they park in his pub's car park, take up all the spaces so his customers can't park, go walking, come back and sit on his benches outside eating their own sandwiches. They even have the cheek to use the pub's toilets too.

He's taken to putting a chain across the car park to stop them - which is a nuisance for anyone who's left their car there overnight because they've had a few drinks.

Shoot the lot of them I say
Some say that this is just a random collection of letters, and that it can only be
understood by Top Gear's tame racing driver. All we know is, it's called The Sig.

He has the right to charge fr parking and to clamp their cars, which I say should happen.  AT least green laning we have the decency to take our cars with us, not abandon them at the side of the road like litter ;)

So did these new stiles impede dog walkers?
If so is not surprising that some dog walkers might have took exception and  set about so remedial action.

I'm sorry your hard work got trashed by some ungrateful oxygen theif.
But why blame ramblers in the title when it's the RA that funded the work, or dog owners?

It is sad that some people take enjoyment out of detroying infracstructure installed for others. But unfortunately there are people out there that will happly see it as a form of entertainment.
