Hi, Tigger had a Cavalier SRi 130 engine in his sammy many years ago, very fast and wasnt bad on fuel. I dont know about the 16v engine but should go in with a carlton gearbox, might be a bit tight for the turbo engine though, and the engines power band will be in the wrong place too, you need low down grunt for  off road - torque - which 16v cars dont tend to have, and turbo cars certainly dont have. If i remember rightly Tigger bottled out at 85mph in third gear... I dread to think what speed it would do flat out. Rumours are he might rebuild it again......
I think you need a suspension lift and bodylift to clear the sump with the front axle.

ye better of with vaux 8v engine as they have more torque than the redtop. the red top was designed for top end power being layed down around 4500revs. although wiring a red top into up isan absolute doddle even for a complete novice. its my favorite engine and iv dropped em in mk2 escorts, novas, corsa's, mk1 astras and even the arse end of a reliant robin. wey hey!!!
theres a gut on difflock already done it.
