Very reasonable, that's what I say.  Two years driving, approaching two year's no claims and still they want 2k for a Disco and 1k for a 90/Series etc.  That's with Pass Plus too.  The joys of being in a catagory F* postcode.

The reason for the difference if you're wondering, a 90 is utility and low insurance group.  Discoveries are on the upper end of the scale, similar to the Range Rover.

Congratulations!

As for insurance, have you got a quote with a parent listed as a named driver? My brother did this with his MR2 and brought the price down by about £200.

I'll try that in April when I renew the Range Rover

Well my brother is 21 and drives a 1988 MR2 (he found an absolutely perfect one after some searching). £900 or so fully comp from Admiral with non-original alloys (on the car when he bought it) declared, parents are named drivers as am I. Not bad for a 1.6 two seater sports car considering he hasn't got any no claims bonus.

I can only assume that there aren't many 20 year old MR2s left, and they're not popular with the badly modified Saxo crowd. In other words, he's probably a better risk in that than in some less interesting new cars!

Well done mate. But youll not be towing a bobtail on your license. You need to do another to be able to tow over 750kg. :(

A chap in the MR2 Mk1 club is paying £2,000 and he's 21.  He has no points and a year's no claims.

Why is there such a difference (as mentioned earlier)?  Well, take a look at this.  The differences between an A and F* (I'm the latter) zones can be as much as £2,000 or perhaps even more on some vehicles.  Someone I knew with a Series 88 2A like mine was paying £200 fully comp unlimited mileage, and was only 17.  Meanwhile the cheapest I can get is £1,200 with one year's no claims and Pass Plus.  This is all because I live in a high risk post code (thank you you bloody rioters!) and the other chappy lives in a low risk.

well done.

Just seen the ins list. I used to live in a A place but now in a B place. Didnt make any difference in my ins thankfully!

Do pass pluss. It will be your friend for a long time. I did mine 9 years ago and most ins companies are stilla ccepting it now.

My first car (and still have it) is a rover 620 2l 16valve injection engine. That was £2200 tpft on my first year with pass pluss and a few female named drivers. Female drivers on policies always help as long as they have a low risk job! Even if they never drive the car! I have a mate on my policy who is a lawyer.  Comes down by a couple of quid!

Just keep on ringing around. it is amazing what a few hours phoning people up can achieve.

It is daft on occasion. My brother is in a "C" postcode, car is parked off street and garaged.

When I first started some places quoted £4k for me on a 1.9 Diesel Citroen ZX. I think a lot of them quote stupid prices because they just don't want the business.

yah, im aware i cant tow the bobtail......im also not sure weather its worth doing the tow test and buying a transporter(one big enough) or just getting insured on it. cost will be close and i have found a company that will insure me for a week on it for £260 which i sopose isnt too bad.....its not going to be used for the weekley shop
i got a clio....which was free...i remain sceptical as to weather itll get through the mot and if not i will be in the market for an ex-military SWB im driving my girlfriends clio at the moment and it is awfull! it is not designed with some one of my size in mind!

when I passed my test 9 years ago  the cheapeest insurance I could find was on a series landy. A series landy was about £400 cheaper thana  fiesta. What can do more damage!!!

anyway. a series was the only vehicle that was in the hundreds of pounds rather than the thousands.

Trailer license is about £800 if you go through a training centre. Obviously not drive through one!!!

an early 90 you will find will make insurance rocket up. even a s3 with a defender front on it made ins companies not want to know!

Nice one, hers a little thing I found when I first passed..........
Fiestas, corsas, puntos, novas, pug 106, saxos etc all very expensive to insure, (all under 1100cc too)- Yet, my fiat uno 1.4i, (75 horsepowers dont you know!- in a car with a wet-weight of 710kg- went like F**K) was cheap as chips! Polos also seemed to be cheap at the time.

If you want a bit of simple, barn door engineering that is characterful and VERY cheap to run with an element of landroverness about it, look no further than an old Panda 4x4!!!! The mechanical equivalent of a mountain goat, group 1 insurance, stragely tardis-like inside and as simple as Kerry Mcfadden! Also you can put a viscous couple out of a sierra XR4x4 in one apparently so you can run permeanent 4wd, which means you can corner in them at speeds which defy the laws of physics.......
