brightest bulbs?

hi been a while since ive posted on hear,due to the fact my defender has been 100% reliable, but one of the bulbs on the headlight has gone,so whats the best/brightest bulb i can fit without renewing the wiring,there not sealed beam type,cheers gus

halfords do a xenon h4 bulb that is supposed to be 90% brighter than standard h4s
you will want to change both bulbs
i run the +50% version and i gotta say they are good!

cheers ian,yeh was going to do both,will see what halfrauds got tomorrow,the light were not the best but dont use it much at night so never bothered before

the light off them is so much whiter than than normal bulbs
it seems to light further away as well

got the halfrauds 90% brighter and there certainly a lot better than the originals,and £18 good value

At £18 that's about the same as a chinese HID kit (depending which way the wind's blowing).

I have been following this thread, and went and got some Halfords 90% today, you can definitely see the difference and that was in the day time, ill let you know when I use them at night.

Marked up at £18.95 each, but they have a BOGOF offer on.

As are HIDs if you buy the right ones. That said if they are on BOGOF I'll fit some to the Micra as I can't be bothered fitting the kit to that.

the light is really good on dipped main beam, about 100% better than the ones in there before.

I bought a set of HID H4's for my subaru imprezza ra and my 205 gti and tbh i would never buy a standard or uprated h4 builb again, one of my 1st jobs on the discovery will be to fit some HID's H4's, The light is so clean and not dingey.

I am sure the HID's are a lot better for on the road, but for the cost and what they have to go though I think the Halfords bulbs are great, I run Wipac crystals (think that's the name, the plastic fronted ones) with these behind them and they are working well, I then silicone the rubber boot over the bowl and around the bulb, three and half foot of water all is well, I don't know about the electrics of the HID units, but for me less is more when it comes to H20 and 12v.

I have a perfect solution to that problem, I don't go driving through deep water, I really can't see the point and I don't like changing wheel bearings that often anyway,  Yes I know they come apart much easier when they've only been on for 6 months but I have other things to do.

That's why I said they were better for on the road :roll: I dont see them as an option for off roading, Laning or Fording.

Well that thing <------- has got them in and I havn't had any trouble.  I lane, I ford, I off road.  I simply don't pretend it's a submarine.  Truth is if the headlights are filling up with water there are many many other bits I'd be worried about first.
