x-anchor is light......others are heavy. if you can cope with the bow but then i would go for that ;)

only thinking of the x-eng one due to its lightness. SWMBO will find it easier to carry than some of the ones that are over 20kg

was just wondering if anyone had one and could report on how strong/good they are

 Havent used one, But have marshalled loads of winch challenges and seem them in action, I have not seen one fail or bend ect, so i guess thats a positive from me :)

I'd go for the x-eng at those prices - it's only a couple of quid more and if it's lighter then it's well worth it. Never heard any complaints about any of their products.

Apparently getting all the stakes out of the ground can be a swine, plus obviously it will take longer to set up and take down than the x-eng type.

That looks like a copy of the portable rescue tree, I have a prt from scorpion and one of the other type as well.
I purchased the PRT as it's the one Land Rover use, if you look on youtube for the Top Gear when Clarkson drove D3 up Scottish mountain, they used it when he got stuck.
It depends on the type of soil which ground anchor is best.

I'm tempted by one of those and I don't even have a winch - I suppose it'd be handy if I ever need to winch with my hilift, and if I ever manage to afford a winch in future...  :lol:

Ground anchors do not seem to work too well here in the chalk clay, they just act like ploughs.

I have the PRT and a paddocks stake type.

For the stakes, you need to carry an nice sledge to get them in and the hi lift jack does a good job of getting them out . The MOD use stake system which is much bigger than the size of the one from paddocks, used to see them for sale at old sodbury. It's a good anchor and it's probably a bit more versatile than spade anchors but slow to deploy but then again there is no rush in non-competition self recovery.

I must admit I thought that too - suspect it's the old greenlaning isn't off roading thing. I would have been more inclined to put "essential for self-recovery".

When the X-Anchor was in development (by Exact Engineering at the time) they used my D2 to test it.  It was able to get good purchase in many different ground types, from clay to gravel, and drag the fully laden Disco up some stupid inclines.  The one I tested was a V section, not the W section they are advertising now, but it was very impressive at th etime, as well as being extremely light.

i saw one being used on saturday at a frozen Drumclog and it acted as a plough so either the car was really stuck or they just rip through the peat/bog there

they do look good and light. will have a word with santa

It really depends on which is stuck the most, sometimes the anchor is pulled to the vehicle.
