Series II bumper on 300??
« on: December 05, 2008, 20:41:26 »
Pretty much as the title says, really.....

Someone I know is selling a Heavy Duty rear bumper off a series II Td5 cheap, but if I buy it I can't return it.

So, does anyobne know if you can fit a Disco Series II rear bumper on a 300tdi??  If it's different, how different are they; and can it be overcome??

Cheers,
Ben.

Anything can be overcome, but in this case I think it would be too much effort to be worth it . . . . .

Anything can be overcome

I quite agree with that... is there a lot of difference, then?

wont go bud. look at how deep a s1 bumper is....the disco2 body is slightley longer and doesnt have to hide so much chassis.
it will probibly fit....but it wont look nice!

I mean, is it me or do all the discos look alike now?... same winch bumber, rear bumper, rock sliders, snorkels, etc.

It's just I hate following the herd if you know what I mean.......

Yeah.. already have one I'm chopping up...    , but this is for my everyday disco, so I need it to look OK..

If there was a gap between the rear of the motor and the bumper that's no problem - I'd just weld a plate on the top of the bumper to cover the hole..

Think I'm gonna have to do some measuring...  :-k

I've never removed a disco rear bumper... still, don't expect it's too much of a job.  8-[

Well, to be fair there are not many different designs you can make a tree slider to - it will always be a steel box section sill protector with a bar of some sort mounted on the side!

Seriously, those of us who lack the skills to make our own bits have to use the various suppliers, so there will be a bit of identikit modding. I have just had a set of Guardian tree sliders fitted and I really couldn't make anything half as good. The Safari snorkel is another case in point - I bought mine before I was aware of the various DIY solutions and while expensive it has proven to be a very well thought out piece of kit.

I agree with you on that, it's just nice to be different, that's all.!

I went for an airtec snorkel rather than a Safari or DIY sonlution simply because it was going cheap (£90).  The construction is  very similar to the Safari and the build quality as good.  I just wasn't wiling to spend £200 on a snorkel.  I also hadn't seen many of them about.  Most people splash out on a Safari and the Airflow ones I've seen just look cheap - The Southdown was out of the question because I have an aux battery.

The winch bumper was also cheap at £150 considering it's a TJM (RRP about £400!!  ), but I haven't mounted the winch to the front of the bumper (it looked a bit weak to be honest), built a tray from 10mm plate and 75/75 angle, then bolted and spot-welded it to the chassis. (that won't move now!!!    ).

So, you see, I'm not adversed to 'making' things fit to be a little different............
