hello guy ive been lookin on ebay at winch plates i dont want to sound dum but do u just bolt it to the bumper and then bolt the winch to the plate  ? i would just buy a hole bumper but as no job i int got a lot of cash kickin around  now lol

Not sure what sort of winch plate you mean.  Some are the part you need to include in a home made winch bumper, some for the Defender do as you say bolt on top of the bumper to provide a winch mounting.

To mount a winch on a standard bumper, you will need a bikini mount.
Superwinch sell them i think, so do many other winch suppliers
300tdi, southdown snorkle, tubular bumper, tds winch with dyneema, tree sliders, 6 spotlights, creepy crawler tyres, 2" lift, dislocation cones, dropped mounts all round, wide angle propshafts, mud dash, bucket seats
