jimny alternator
« on: December 15, 2008, 19:23:05 »
i start my jimny then it sounds like the alternater belt is squeeking and the lights go dimm , for instance i had the blowwers on full and when they squeeking started they nearly went off from lack of power , as i rev the car there is no difference but as i drive it the power comes back and goes again , does this sound like the alternator , also if i switch my e/windows shut when they are already shut it nearly kills the headlights.

Try adjusting the belt tension, if that makes no differance slaken the belt off enough to slip it of the pully then check for movement in the bearing or even seazed/stiff bearing. If you've been playing in the water or mud they soon give up the ghost. I usually keep an eye on e-bay and if there are any cheap alternators or starter motors I bid. I always try and have one as a spare. Genuine ones are a fortune, but don't tell the breakers!

ive taken it to the car spairs shop and he tested it , it charges when on tick over but when revved it doesnt charge and looks like its seizing up on high revs , we got a smell of burning rubber , so it looks like a new one is required ,
do you know if i can get the same alternater off any other suzuki , we dont have any jimny breaking around here.
are you selling one glaggs

I fitted my spare recently! Try Jap spares at Sheffiels, I've had a few bits off them cheep, or DMS at Doncaster. Otherwise keep an eye on e-bay (I'll lay off bidding 'til your sorted). You could try local Auto electrical suppliers to see if they can do an exchange or a refurb job on it? As for other models using same, not sure. I know the Vit and SJ ones are different, but the little Carryvan thing might use the same one, a local parts supplier should be able to cross ref it for you.
