Am i being dense........... bumper fitment.
« on: December 17, 2008, 19:20:10 »
Hi All, some of you may remember i asked about a week ago about the bracketery that should be with a scorpion HD rear bumper for a 300tdi.....  so, the bracket arrived from the seller, and i fitted that to the rear cross member, held the bumper up to the truck, got it about an inch or so from touching the centre bracket, only to find that it fouls the lower outer edges on the bodywork..... there is NO WAY this will fit without me bending the rear quarter..... which i am not prepared to do........ anyelse had problems with these items, or is it just me...... the seller told me he's fitted loads of them, and i must be doing something wrong......

you can see where it's touching in this shot.....

Any  ideas before i admit defeat and hit something with a very large hammer...!!!!
gone from 200tdi.... to 300tdi... still with loads done to it, in fact, even more than the last truck...LOL!!!

I fitted mine last night, no similar probs, did you make sure to tighten the bolts evenly? Half dozen turns a time on each should draw it in level. Failing that, bend the bumper out a bit, not the truck.

I did have a problem fitting the light connectors on the rear, they foul on the rear body member, I took a hammer to it....

Had this problem on several bumpers from Scrapiron racing bought by people and have been asked to fit them for them. Take a grinder to the outside edges of the 'end caps' on the bumper.

Hence why I advise customers not to buy SR products and never use them for myself.

Would be a shame to do that though, it's 2nd hand and has been freshly powder coated...... i don;t seem to have much luck, everything i buy is crap...... there was a time when if you bought something, it fitted..... not anymore..... most things need modifying before you fit them..... normally with a hammer!!

Thanks guys, at least it's not only me...!!

..have you pondered the possibility that maybe your disco just has a fat a*se?

I know someone who keeps insisting that her jeans are shrinking in the wash, but i did NOT get involved in that one!

Its either that or trim the edges of the rear wings with a grinder mate.

Well, i took the plunge, and took a grinder to the underneath of the bumper, and then spread the sides out slightly, welded in a gusset, and then painted it with hammerite........ was gonna try and sell it, but i'm now happy, it cost me £200, which is not bad for what i have really, just a shame it didn;t fit nicelt straight away....!
