Temperamental pre heating?
« on: January 02, 2009, 21:14:59 »
With the recent cold mornings, my Disco has been a bit reluctant to start. I've noticed that the yellow light sometimes goes out straight away, sometimes after a second or two and sometimes it lasts what I imagine is the full time. Where should I start looking?

I would have a look at the relay timer thingy under the bonnet located on the inner wing if its still there  on the drivers side left as you look at front on the brake master cylinider side,i think its there on mine.I couldnt tell you how to check it as i havent had a chance to look at mine either yet.I thought that it was engine dependent on whether they needed glow plugs in cold weather, some do some dont there seems to be no reason for it and it doesnt point to probs elsewhere if you have to use them,my one does need them in the morning my mates with 248,000 doesnt,my brothers with 82,000 again does and his is maintained by land rover.

i have a 300tdi def as well as a td5 disco and the def has over 300000 miles on clock and it needs its heat in the winter, but the light seems to stay on for different lengths of time as well, i was just under the impression that was normal :-k it always starts now matter how cold it is!
