Poly bush kits?
« on: January 07, 2009, 19:22:04 »
Want to do all the bushes on my 04 Reg Defender TD5, it has covered 95 thou miles and is used off road a far bit so think it's time.

I am thinking of poly bushes as they can be changed at home with out need of a press. I use my Def as my daily drive van and is always loaded.

Any suggestions?

Andy

I would go for the blue polybushes.
I regularly have a fully loaded truck, tow trailers and go off road.
I think they are the best ones i have had, better than the red or orange ones.

Hope it helps

The only bushes I supply and use are SuperPro.  Slightly more expensive than some other brands but IMHO worth the extra money.

You don't need a press to fit them.. but it does make life easier (or a vice will do)... not because they require force to fit - just easier than trying to press them in by hand.

Except that you may need a press to get some of the old ones out!

Agree with Porny Superpro are the only ones worth fitting, definitely you get what you pay for, I have heard of many instances of shocker eyes being torn off using cheap Polybushes.

But if you burn them out, which is what I assume you are referring to, make sure you wear an adequate mask.
It took nearly 30 tonnes to shift my A frame bushes by pressing them out.

Hi Ian (Porny)

Can you quote me for a full set, it's 90 TD5 standard height, and are they in stock?

Thanks Andy

I wasn't refering directly to burning. Drilling is another option, either chain drilling a ring of small holes or maybe just drilling a couple of swarf holes and then a hole saw to cur the centre sleave(s) out.

I do have an old fly press, but without exactly the right diameter adaptor I find its easier to just push the middle sleave out of the bush and then cut out the outer sleave.

I use the oranges as well from flowflex second land rover i put them on,its the one thing i do as a matter of course now.You will get a real big improvement in ride quality.Im with CLB on the removing front so easy just to drill a couple of holes and knock em out with a hammer,I even did my A frame ones like that while still on the car.
