Alarm and Immobliser
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:44:02 »
hay guys i have this little problem. My insurace company would like proof of the alam and immobliser in my 200tdi disco.  So i thought i would pop down to my local deal to see if they could get that for me. On arrival at the dealer i was told they get asked this a lot, and some time they can. so after 5min of them on the computer they said they could not help me due to the age of the motor and it not being held on the system (cos it was proberly never enterd on it).

so im  now stuck has any one got any ideas of how may be i could find this.

you will need to phone a alarm fitter and for about £25
they will come out check your alarm immobiliser and then issue you a certificate,
photocopy it and send it to your insurance company,
i had to do the same with a subaru that i brought before they would insure it.

My 200tdi is a 93/94 year model (24-spline diff).

The original fit alarm was Thatcham 1 category. However, this was down graded to a Thatcham 2 due to specification changes.

The best people to call would be remote-key, as he would have all the answers (well, he has had them for me).

That's why I don't use them.  Think about it, you save £100 on your car insurance by fitting some peice of tat aftermarket Thatcham cat 1 alarm that only inconveniences you, if someone wants to nick your truck they'll nick it.  Then after a couple of years it packs up and you have to fit a new one, plus repiar all the damage done to the original wiring loom because the guy who was "an acredited alarm fitter" was in truth a gorilla with a soldering iron.

I've had 4 such alarms at great expense and they have all let me down, all our cars are now back on the LR factory alarm, tested by dipping in mud by the manufacturer so a bit of condensation won't be an issue either.
