suspension advice

hello people i looking at doing a suspension lift on the disco but would like to know what are the advantages and disadvantages of using blocks instead of springs?

Also:

What size blocks can i use (safely)?
How much difference will a lift make to the onroad/towing?
what lift can i go to before i have to change the prop?

i personaly would go for a spring lift as you will get better articulation and longer travel. Also with any lift you need extended brake lines, its better to be safe than sorry especially with brakes!

i wouldn't go over 2" spring lift or shock lift with out changing anything. if you go over 2" u will have to start thinking about buying a lot more stuff.

dont know about towing my discovery isnt on the road YET   :D

as said the springs will be better. but then again it depends on cost, you can make some spacer blocks out of box section for £10.
our D2 has a 2" lift and 34" jungle trekkers and there are a few problems with towing ie. as were a little higher on the back the trailer wants to pull down and the disco can go a little light on the font end.

If your springs and shocks are in good nick go for spacers .
If you are unsure of their condition, replace the lot with new ones.
2 inches are the most you can go without running to other problems such as a carden jointed front prop, cranked rear arms and corrected radius arms.
Towing will be ok, so long as you dont overload the trailer/ caravan.
My Disco has a 3 inch suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift with 35 inch mt's on. It tows ok but i dont drive like a maniac.

I'm not a fan of spacers, like Wizard said unless your springs are like new then it will caus eprobelms.

Some people like a really soft, wallowy truck but as you will be rasing the C of G youneed stiffer springs to make it handle, most 2" lifts are about 25% uprated.

Then you also get the problem that the srpings can get "coil bound" before the bump stops touch the axles, do it hard and the springs might shatter.

i have been reading that alot of lift springs have been sinking. I have a heavy duty winch bumper and a winch on the front so would need hd lift springs. I am unaware of what springs i have but the shocks are fecked. The springs however do seem to be hd as the winch when fitted had little affect on the suspension.

I would be extending the brake lines .
