Kumho or Insa MT's on D2?
« on: January 11, 2009, 17:35:33 »
Hi All,

I know I've asked this question before, but would be interested in any advice/experiences folk have...

I have a D2 which, after much thought, I've decided not to lift. However, it needs new tyres and can't (quite) decide what to do...

Option 1
I have a set of 16 inch alloys to replace the 18 inchers it came so I could fit Kumho KL71's - 245/75R16 would give me a bit more clearance and I know lots of people here say these are a good choice. I think this size should be OK on a D2 without the need to modify the bodywork?

Option 2
Using the 16 inch alloys, go for Insa Turbo Dakar's in 235/70R16... no height advantage here I guess, but greater certainty they will fit and not foul the bodywork - bit cheaper too.

Either choice would benefit me re off road use, certainly more than the worn 255/55R18 road tyres I have at the mo!

Thanks,

Nick

You wont get Kuhmo K71's...there's very little of them in the country & it's anyones guess when new ones will arrive...I know cos I been looking for a replacement after a recent blowout   They are a cracking tyre though!  :afro:
Did everyone see that?  Because I will NOT be doing it again!

Thanks for the update - the Kumho's must indeed be a popular choice! :D

I spoke to a dealer today who told me they expected to restock in approx 6 weeks - hopefully they will...

Still don't know what option to go for though - once choice is available again! :-k

Cheers,

Nick

I was trying to kumho s in october last year and kept been told "there on the way" but they never came in to stock. Gave up on them and went for BFG Muds,a bit more expensive but what a GOOD tyre, road manners are outstanding and better than my old Grizzy claws in the mud.

Forget insa s (any remold) if u do any distances ,it will drive like a waterbed!!!!

Just my 2 peneth worth!!!!!
