Centre Diff Lock on D2?
« on: January 17, 2009, 16:24:06 »
I have a 2002 D2 that doesn't have the stub etc to enable the centre diff lock to be reinstated :(

Are there any other options to do so or is the only way forward to replace the transfer box with one that has diff lock?

Cheers,

Nick

Hi nick

I am in the process of doing this on my Disco II. Luckly I have the stub

Ashcrofts do a kit, but they want silly money for it. They also do the linkage, but again silly money.

Since the transmission is the same as the older models, does anyone know if the rigid linkage off a 300 would fit (I have an auto v8)

Thanks Ed, I took a look at the Ashcroft website - parts alone will cost me £465!

Do you know if the D2 uses the same transfer box as the 300Tdi Discos? Might be a cheaper option?...

Cheers,

Nick

Nick

They both use the LT230 Transfer Box, but are they mounted in the same place for the rigid bar to fit? ie, right under the gear lever???

Thanks - does anybody know if theLT230 from a Disco 1 can be fitted direct into a Disco 2?

Yes, AFAIK the casing match and the gears etc are all nominally the same, but the gears are better on later boxes.  Another option would be to buy a cheap T-box that's bust and rob the bits you need from that, then you keep your quiet, cross drilled gears.
