Fuel tank sender unit wiring on 90 2.5NA
« on: January 18, 2009, 12:58:47 »
Fitted a new fuel tank the other week and connected the sender up as the old one was but it did not work correctly. I then played around with the wires and got it reading the fuel level, well so I thought until it started to get low on fuel.

Now I am just above reserve the gauge goes up and down like a Yo Yo when I change gear, go up and down hill etc. Most worrying though is the lack of the low fuel warning light. I would expect that if going around a corner or up a hill etc. and the gauge moves down below the reserve warning the low fuel light would come on.

This was working before I did the job and does make an effort to come on every now and again which indicates to me that the buld it OK.

Does anyone know the correct wiring for the sender unit.

There are three wires front to back.

Cheers

Thats what I thought it was - tried that and it increased a little bit from the bottom, turned the ignition on and it went flat.

I wonder if the sender could be faulty

Try adding a temporary earth from the tank to the chassis. Sender units quite often suffer from earth connection problems.

Had the same problem on my 90. the guage was working fine till I changed the tank then got stuck on half only found out when I ran out of fuel. So first I thought the float was stuck so took sender out and refitted still the same  stuck on half. Even with it out and manualy moving the float it would only show half. Chucked it an fitted new one all is now fine
