Ultimate Landy Music ?
« on: August 02, 2003, 12:50:29 »
The question is as follows (I'm bored OK)

What is the perfect music to listen to in a landy ?

If we treat a "landy" as the Noisy smelly series / 90 definition, rather than those things in which you can hear the radio then what is the best music for the following situations...

Driving (round town)
Driving (bypass / motorway)
Driving (off road / green laning)
Driving *fast* (Offroad, Comping and the like)
Waiting for the AA
Fixing it

I await your answers ....

Hmmm.... good question :D

Driving (round town)
Non wifes to busy taking to hear it
Driving (bypass / motorway)
Queen very loud so that kids in the back can't be heard saying are we there yet
Driving (off road / green laning)
Non CB banter far more entertaining
Driving *fast* (Offroad, Comping and the like)
You must be joking in a 200 series non V8 Discovery FAST
Waiting for the AA
"Another one bites the dust" by Queen
Fixing it
Let someone else do silly things like that

Hope this comes out as planned as it's taken ages to type

Round Town
Chemical Brothers (Setting Sun)
Bypass/Motorways
Metallica - Fuel
Offroad / Greenlaning
Royksopp
Fast Offroad
Fear Factory - Replica
Waiting for the AA
Nothing as you should be outside your vehicle on the verge (if you're on m'way!)
Fixing it
Radio garbage as you're not really listening to it if you are concentrating on your car

Not exactly what was asked but here's my band/singer listing from the CD compilations;

Steve Earle
Dwight Yoakham
Dixie Chicks
The Mavericks
The Boss (Springsteen)
Don Henley
Dave Edmunds
Stray Cats
Restless
Dave Phillips & the Hot Rod Gang
EddieCochrane
Johhny Burnette
Skids
Big Country
Sparks
Kate Bush
Tindersticks
Dolly Parton
Mozart
Echobelly
Catatonia (best thing from Wales, and she's got the sexiest voice in music)
Nick Cave
etc, etc....

Springsteen did so many car songs;
'Racing in the Streets', 'Cadillac Ranch', 'Thunder Road', 'Pink Cadillac'
just for starters

Steve Earle did a brilliant track called 'Sweet Little '66', with cracking verses like;

"Now she ain't too good on gasoline and burns a little oil,
but she was built by union labour on American soil,
My sweet little '66.
So when your Subaru is over and your Honda's history,
I'll be blasting down some backroad with my baby next to me.
In my sweet little '66"

Both of them are master song-writers, they don't really write songs they tell stories.

Good question......

Depends on mood and requirement, and what vehicle I happen to be in.

BMW 750/M5 -
The Prodigy - Fat of the Land (WARNING, this music promotes execessive speeding)
JMJ
Garbage
Blur - Song Two ! (Great for powerslides)
Garry Numan - Cars
Tool - Anima
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries.

Disco II -
Pink Floyd - Pulse
Evanesence - Fallen
Tomb Raider Sound Track.
Metallica - Enter the Sandman.
New Order - True Faith
Daniel Beddingfield - Gotta get through this

Hmm, need to research this a little more...

Danny.

Mmm, New Order & 'True Faith'.
Is that the track that the Lightening Seeds ripped off for 'Pure & Simple',

Oh no, back-track, that was 'Love Vigilantes', I think as it's got the same guitar riff & feel to it.

No I'm not too keen either Dyf, it just stuck in my mind as plagiarism.

Preferred bands like King Kurt, Meteors, Polecats, The Cramps, Frenzy, Restless, Stray Cats at that time. Still like the last two.

Plus a bit of 'Goth'; Theatre of Hate, Sisters of Mercy, March Violets, Spear of Destiny and others.
Or was it simply all the girls in fishnet, PVC & leather.

Weren't New Order simply the evoluntion of Joy Division after the lead singer (??  ??) comitted suicide?

Yes,

Joy Division and New Order are of the same.

Chris, thing is you can't really go fast off-road, admittedly Wagner is good for both but doing a having to get to a port and doing 130-155 mph on autobahns is just awesome, and Valkyries can be a bit tame for that

Hence some good Techno beats like The Prodigy etc....IMHO.
