is it just me...
« on: January 22, 2009, 18:59:35 »
Maybe its just me that gets annoyed by this but as anyone else noticed how many cars are driving about with only one headlamp. Driving home from work tonight, a distance of about 7 miles I counted and passed 8 cars with only 1 headlight working. 2 of them didn't even have a sidelight working on the same side. I don't for the life of me understand how they can stand to drive about like it.

It seems to be every other week that the local TV news or local paper are telling us how dangerous fen roads are and moaning on about making them safer.

Well heres some news. OF COURSE THERE BLOODY DANGEROUS, HALF THE PEOPLE DRIVING ALONG THEM CAN'T SEE WHERE IN THE HELL THEIR GOING!!

Right, deep breaths, cup of sweet tea, lie down in darkened room until blood pressure drops to manageable level.

Gets me when you have a car coming towards you with only one headlight and no front sidelights hard to tell from a distanceif it's a car or a bike!! and misaligned headlights are annoying!!!

Beware the one-eyed monster...  :?

What's even more bizarre are those people who drive with side-lights and fog lights - usually very slowly because they can't see all that far

Two days ago, during the day, it was raining, grey and windy.  Everyone had their dipped lights on, as they should.  Except for one plank.  He only had his parking  (I refuse to call them side) lights on, and only the nearside one was working at the front.

It was a marked police car!

I believe its a factor of modern cars needing virtually no routine maintainance checks and extended service periods.
With older cars folk got into the habit of checking things regularly and picked up on dead bulbs etc. Even the old 3000 mile oil changes led to most vehicles being in for service regularly at which time the garage would check lights etc  it led to a little extra income for them when they found a deal bulb.

Modern cars with 20,000 mile service intervals that don't burn oil just never get checked in between services.

Must go check my lights :-)

And they tend to be modern cars that haven't yet had an MOT, so they are driving around blinding people for 3 years

There's a guy locally who delivers newspapers around the villages and rural houses. I stopped him one morning about 3 weeks ago and told him one of his brake lights wasn't working. Saw him the other morning and it still isn't working. Some people obviously don't care.

I've lost count of the number of vehicles I've followed with no working brake lights, or just the high-level light (or even just part thereof).  :?

If we had more traffic Police to pick up on these safety matters, people would be more careful.
