what to do
« on: January 25, 2009, 13:26:18 »
well its coming up to the time of year everyone dreads MOT time for my 300tdi auto 98 disco, thing is its going to need quite a lot of work this year i think to get it through.
I dont use it all the time now as we bought a small fiesta to run around in and save fuel when costs were high and we are still using that every day at the minute
So here,s the question, do i spend loads on getting it through the mot to bring it back to life or while i,m at it and i have another car to run about in do i spend some money on mods such as engine performance suspension and cosmetic looks and upgrades?
having sold off the fleet  of my other discos i,m sort of hankering after something to go laning and playing in again, its either that or i go out and look at something newer like a td5 seeing as they seem to be worth pence round here at the minute, even the apprentice at work has bought one
its going to need
A good service of everything is due anyway
front right swivel ball is corroded and starting to leak
brakes looking at odd abs fault
engine has developed several annoying leaks on the filter housing and the front timing case
windsceen is leaking somewhere but i can pin down where yet
complete exhaust front to back it is the original so its done well its more like a sieve now
and i have the usual niggly faults like some switches dont work, heated seats dont work, cruise control dont work etc etc
to fix everything to standard or to mod while i,m at it?

what to do

Turn it into a off roader  :D
Fuel prices are on the up again so stick with the Fiesta  for a road car

Keep it, fix it up (can't be that expensive) wait out the fuel side of things. Lets face it, a sorted machine is always worth more!

Values of older LR will never be high again so you might as well have some fun with it.  None fo the list sounds that bad though, if it's solid keep it going.

Put one-shot in the swivel, clean the oil leaks up just before the MOT, buy some seak-n-seal for the windscreen and push all the ABS sensors back intot heir housings, if one is badly loose then check the wheel bearing on that corner.
