Today i had a puzler
« on: January 25, 2009, 21:13:28 »

A friend of mine came round with his 99 fiesta today, complain it was leaking a lot of oil.

After he parked it up i had a look and he was right it was flowing out from around the oil filter.

cheeked the oil filter was on tight.

Q. when did you last get a service?
A, Not since iv had it, ( 3/4 years)

After ling on the floor for 20min trig to work out were the oil dripping from the end of the filter was coming from, i found it...

the oil filter had rusted through from the outside.. well iv never seen that before.

I know what you mean. I serviced my mates 206 gti Last weekend. The same. Owned it for three years. No servicing.

Its the first time i have seen a rusty dipstick. (No funny comments please  [-X )

And it has a gauge on the dash to tell you the oil level. But guess what. Yep, he didnt know it was there. :)

my girlfriend help him change it today, as i wasn't going to do it in the dark on a sunday night.

But they ended up taking it to a garage to get on a ramp. as the sump plug was stuck solid.

Garage then put a 4foot bar on that and, spent 40mins trying to get the filter on, It had rusted on!

Im just glad he didnt ask me to do it, as im far to suborn to take it to a garage.

I've had the opposite. When I was at Uni someone came to ask for some help because their car wouldn't start. I asked if they'd done anything, and all they'd done was "top-up the oil".

So I took off the 710 cap, and there was the oil just below the rim.  ](*,)

I tactfully pointed out the dipstick (to the dipstick!) and explained its purpose before leaving them to it...
Some say that this is just a random collection of letters, and that it can only be
understood by Top Gear's tame racing driver. All we know is, it's called The Sig.
