squealling noise from underside

i recently went on the motor way on friday the car was fine on the way back seemed ok but after i got off the motor way i noticed a high pitched squeal coming from my car it builds with the revs is as far as i can tell and its just near the gearbox cant tell exactly where. im stumped anyone know anything about it please help. all help appreciated thanks

Does it build with engine revs or road speed?

If road speed, it might be a UJ on it's way out. If it has dried up, they tend to sqeal.

I would think its a UJ on the way out or, which is even worse, the propshaft bolts are loose, both meit having a look before you drive it again.

Does it continue if you put the clutch in while driving?

well it continues all the time, it starts as soon as i turn it on without even driving, but it does build with revs.? im very lost on this one.

if it happens when stationary it must b alternator,ps pump ,belts,clutch thrust bearing(not sure on this 1)

Stupid metal shield behind brake disc, real common, but difficult sound to get direction on.

I'd have a guess the alternator is on its way out  :roll:

300tdi, southdown snorkle, tubular bumper, tds winch with dyneema, tree sliders, 6 spotlights, creepy crawler tyres, 2" lift, dislocation cones, dropped mounts all round, wide angle propshafts, mud dash, bucket seats

Take all the drive belts off and spin the pulleys on the engine, if any of them have play in them or sound rough. You've found the problem.
