Pinky terminally ill I think
« on: January 28, 2009, 16:45:11 »
Hi

I need help lads.  I am having the rear cross member replaced and the trouble is it far worst that I imagined.

Basically at first I though it need an A pillar welding in. So I got another cut off a Disco shell. But when the rear quarter panel was removed it showed that it had gone in the seam around the arch and down the back of the boot. Also the wheel arch was corroded at the back. We looked at a new panel but LR reckon its obsolete.

Failing putting a new panel in I could settle for a second hand one. But it must be rust free.

So I need somebody with a Disco body shell that doesn't mind cutting out the section that the rear dickie seats mount including the rear wheel arch.

You will have to take the rear quarter off to get at it.

Anyone got a one they are going to scrap?

It either that or its curtains for Pinky.

Cheers

John

Oh dear,

After everything you did with mine Mick I didn't think "terminal" was in your vocabulary, hope something can be done to save Pinky.

Start a "Save Pinky" campaign.  ;)

Basically if I can't get the panel I'll have to go and buy another Disco. At £1500 upwards for a P or R reg late model 300Tdi and then about 3 weeks of work to transfer everything over is it worth while...

Rock and a hard place...

What to do...

The Passenger side is just as badly corroded, the inner panel is no longer avaliable from landrover,

if you want just a shell i know someone who is taking a shell off a p reg disco it was offered to me to reshell mine but i already done half of the welding how much would you pay for just a shell i can get it of and bring it down to you

To be honest I'm not interested in reshelling but I'd happily buy the rear corner off it.

If you want to come down to Winchester, you can cut the wheel arch and side panel out of ASBO, the drivers side is completely rot free - I think. Wheel arch may want a small bit welded in but you can have it for free.

I think I am going to scrap it and start over on another vehicle. Even if I got the panels for nought they are still going to cost a £1000 to weld. Going to look at a R reg 300TDI that is local to me tonight.

Does that mean yer steering wheel might be going spare Pinky?

If so I have a home for it!
