Cigarette lighter don't work!
« on: March 09, 2005, 17:16:18 »
Well I finally have joined the ranks with a 300TDI Discovery, no problems with it, except the cigarette lighter doesn’t work, not really a problem but I want to be able to charge my phone (and other gadgets! :D ) Tried replacing the fuse and no joy. Any one no why it might not be working or how to fix it?  :?
Many Thanks
Rich

Does it only not work with your phone charger?

Try a different plug.

Have you tried a test light/meter on it?

May just need a clean inside or the metal contacts on the side bending out a bit.

Depending on what you want to run on the socket, it might be a thought to re wire it with better wire and fit an in lie fuse, if the 300 is like the 200 its more like speaker :?

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

Tried with a different plug and cleaned it all but no joy.
Looks like its going to need to come out and either be rewired or a new one put in! It'l keep me busy anyway!

The word missing of that posting was wire

Might be worth it, not a hard job if you can run the cable though the bulkhead ok

Have you metered it to see if there's any power there?
You haven't got a blown fuse in the plug itself?
Meter the centre of the socket using its own earth.
Then try from the centre to a seperate earth point.
Then try the sockets earth point to a known 12 live.
You'll find out if it's an earth or live problem.
It may just be a wire has come off behind the socket.

Does the light come on on the socket when the lights are switched on?

Mine had the wire taking power to the lighter pulled off and re rooted to the stereo looks like the guy who had it before me gave up looking for the proper wires and just used a different live from the fag lighter

Put the stereo on and pull the fuse if the music stops bingo
