CAN I BORROW
« on: February 03, 2009, 20:58:40 »
Has anyone near me got an X-Eng  halshaft tool, or anything similar that I can borrow please (reasonably local) becasue I've snapped the short front halfshaft off in the diff, no way am I doing that in this weather.

X-Eng are out of stock :(

Hope you manage to get hold of one.........................................I'd be interested to see if they actually work
Anytime I have snapped a front half shaft in the past it's never been easy to get the stump out even with the diff on the bench without resorting to violence !
They always seem to break in a twisting fashion meaning the splines get wedged together......................maybe it's just me  :)
The nice part of living in a small town is that when I don't know what I am doing, someone else does

I've always just taken the other shaft out, put a bit of rod through the diff and given it a smack...  if it is going to come out at all (without a proper fight) then it will just pop through the axle casing and can be fished out with a magnet

NOW you tell me, it's up against a wall in peices.  It's the small shaft that's bust too.  I thought about buying the X-Eng magnet and a broom handle to do the job, I agree it needs to be a hefty magnet.

This is when we could do with the Fragrant One still being on the scene   I'm looking at one now on the top shelf, but I don't know if it is still useable or not.

Ta, I'll tell you when it arrives.

Hi Andy,
I've got visions of the poor postman being dragged between any lampposts on the route or the van driver unable to get it out the back of the van without it fetching everything else with it.

I have pulled them out with the workshop vacuum cleaner.

See, that's the broken bit sucked to the end of a piece of plastic overflow tube.

I take it it's not Chugga that's bust, then. :D

If you want to give it a try, I MIGHT still have the old vac in the garage - can't remember if it went to the tip or not.  Let me know.

:-k Did you manage to get a smooth finish on the plaster?
