300tdi Timing Cover Bearing for Viscous Fan Pulley
« on: February 05, 2009, 16:20:26 »
Joy.

Ive got a random squeek on my 90 that is getting more and more frequant.

Tracked it down to hte bearing on the inside of the timing case for the Fan pulley :(

To get the 300tdi 'Front Cover' off you have to take most of the front off, which I dont mind doing. Only tricky bit will be the bloody nut on the bottom pulley..

Ant bright ideas?

Does anyone know the part number for the bearing? I cant find it in microcat.

This is a thread I found on it.

It is fairly easy to get off.
You can use a breaker bar and crank the engine over without the fuel pump connected and that will free it off.
I held the engine with a screwdriver in the flywheel and just used a breaker bar to undo it.
Comes off fairly easily, well, it does with a length of scafold bar
Dont know the bearing number iff the top of my head

Hope you get it sorted

It seems that after some digging, you cant actually get the bearing on its own.. nor can you press it out fo the cast case

Looks like it needs a whole new timing cover!

Such as life. £150 from the clutch fund!

Might be worth asking in the wanted section of forum, plenty of dead 300tdi's sitting about with perfectly good timing cover plates without forking out for brand new. I do not think issue with the bearing is *that* common. How many miles on clock out of interest?

85K...

I took the fan pulley off and it is rough when you turn it, and there is a little play.

Good Idea on the wanted section :)
