Paramedic uses 4x4 to beat snow
« on: February 05, 2009, 21:52:44 »

Paramedics used a 4x4 vehicle to take a pregnant mother to hospital after her partner could not get his car out of their snowbound home in Somerset.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7873063.stm

The Great Western Ambulance Service has brought in 4x4 vehicles to try to maintain their services.

http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/salisbury/salisburynews/4101128.St_John_Ambulance_service_steps_up_in_emergencies/

THE St John Ambulance in Wiltshire has been hard at work supporting the emergency services during the present weather conditions.

Three of the charity's 4x4 ambulances have been deployed by the Great Western Ambulance Service to help them reach emergencies despite the treacherous road conditions that have prevailed across the county.

I have just completed my third callout for 4x4 Response Wales this week, taking carers on their usual rounds as some lesser roads resemble Finnish rally stages. I know two other Responders in the area have been equally busy.

Meanwhile in London,

"London councils are looking forward to windfall congestion charges form 4x4 owners who bother to go to work, also the Low Emission Zone means that snowploughs and gritting lorries will also contribute to the coffers. This will help underpin important projects like using art therapy to stop people being fat"

I did have a brief thought of "4x4 Response London" popping up, and the rest of us being drafted in to show the residents of Kensington and Chelsea what the funny buttons on their cars do...

Are you sure? :-k I wouldn't be at all surprised.

I took my Disco into work the other night and offered the use of it, if needed. The boss said that my offer would be seriously considered. I then mentioned that a mileage claim would be submitted. That ended the consideration. :(

Both Leicestershires St John ambulance Landrovers have been out, as have the pair of Nissan Patrol based ones.

I was at land rover experience on friday and all their vehicles including g4 challenge ones were out on loan to the emergency services at no cost.

When I worked at Ford they used to "lend" cars to the Essex police too, it's a good way of getting feedback and mileage accumulation, so it works both ways.
