Heater blower cutting out
« on: February 06, 2009, 21:37:20 »
Hi

The heater blower on my 1994 discovery occassionally cuts out for about a second and then comes straight back on.  Its a bit odd and hasn't failed me, but is it about to and whats the fault.

Cheers

Both of mine have done that - I think it's a Disco thing.

Mine too on full. think it may be just a dodgy conection as if you just push the knob right (even though its all the way over to the right) its comes back.

Mine does this occasionally too in Clover. In Pinky it was accompanied by smoke and did not work again.

Surely taking the weight out doesn't really work if you put it back in as bacon sarnies...

I'll get me coat...  :D

If you can get up under the drivers footwell, you will find the connector from the controls to the wiring leading to the motor, my probslem was terminal as it just didn't work one day, turned out that the earth had packed up somewhere in the system

If you have already checked the feeds out from the switch to the motor try connecting a fresh earth from a good source to the earth wire on this lead back to the motor, I think its the black one, but check with the wiring diagram before trying

Another thing to do if you have a sticking motor is to again locate the feed wires under the drivers footwell, helps if you are a limbo dancer though  , and put a 12v feed onto the wiring plug, after unplugging it from the switch loom, see if you get any action, if not try reversing the polarity of the connections, it will run in reverse, sometimes it can un sieze a stuck motor, it needs a decent size cable to try this and be careful not to burn anything, if the cables you are holding get warm, stop, and try pulsing the connections rather than a continious burst of power

When I turn my blower off the wipers come on, do one sweep of the screen then go off again.

mine cuts out as well. I was told it was the thermal cut out isnt big enough for the motor or something. I just have it running on ful speed then 1st time it cuts out I drop it down a speed.

Mine used to carry on running even when I had the key in me hand!! Stopped doing this now thankfully!

Oh and locking you out. Mine did that too. The lock was frozen!  But I bet that will be a tired door spring and so drops down occasionaly activitating the central locking. Always keep a 2nd key in your pocket or replace the springs. I have been told it is easy to do. Thats why I have a set of springs somewhere. I say somewhere, thats because I have had them 2 years and dont want to do the job. lol
