Fun in the melt water.....
« on: February 11, 2009, 00:27:22 »

New depth markers installed at Churchover, Warks- I guess they really REALLY want you know the depth of water here now....

.....following last year's accidents

Obviously the previous depth marker wasn't clear enough for these BMW drivers!

Churchover Cool Irish Bridge. I have notice that even OffChurch has water on it at the moment only about an inch yesterday, I have  been trying to get it for my Youtube collection of Warwickhire Fords.  Any one thinking of playing around in your local fords should look on http://www.wetroad.co.uk as this will give you some idea of how dangerous fords are.

Please remember a lot of this water is melt water and may put you at risk of dyeing of hypothermia within 3 min, so please engage your brain before playing.

There was I car stuck in Offchurch crossing this morning and the Police had closed the road. I offered to tow the guy out but his recovery truck turned up anyway.

The water is indeed VERY cold- maybe 2 deg C max- so don't get wet. The ford at Kings Newnham this morning was actually iced over at the edges and the approaches were sheet ice too. As Boddle says- avoid, unless you're 100% sure you know what you're getting into.

Around here they shut the road if there's as much as a trickle over the ford - locked gates to save the foolish from themselves.

Means going the long way round too, which can't be environmentally friendly...

I know what you mean. I got stopped on the Mill Bridge at Little Paxton yesterday by the police.
I wouldn't mind if it was a raging torrent but I've had deeper baths. Wot right have they got to cause so much disruption and traffic caos over a 6inch deep trickle.
And while I'm having a rant how come the sign on the A1 has been showing road flooded for months and now its actualy flooded the signs gone.  rant over
Landyman ...
If in doubt go flat out!!!!

those 2 bmw drivers were just doing what all bmw drivers do

ignore every road rule because it doesnt apply to them, after all, bmws are the ultimate driving machine, so ofcourse 4 1/2 feet of fast moving water will have no effect on theyre far suppierior car
