climate control
« on: February 12, 2009, 22:22:56 »
I'd like to fit the climate control from a td5 to my 98 300tdi es. Has anyone done this or know of anyone who has. Also what parts would I need and does anyone know where I could get them from?
Thanks

I've seen the control panels on ebay, but I really don't know how they'd connect to a TDI. For starters, the control on the TDI to select where you want the air to be blown is purely mechanical, when you turn the knob it moves bits of bent wire to open and close valves. The climate control system would use a servo of some sort to do this.

If anyone does know how to do it then please post, as I wouldn't mind having a go myself.

Im sure it would be cheaper and easier to buy a Td5!!  The climate control will go through the BCU im sure.  And like you say, would require internal and external sensors.

But I don't want a Td5, lol. I've looked at pictures of the Td5 with and without climate and the one without shares the same dash and controls as the 300. I know it would be a big job but I intend keepin the car and it would be nice. Spoke to an electrician and he said it would probably need the loom and heater motor as well as the controls so I know it won't be easy but I am surprised no one on here hasn't already done it.
Thanks
