Peeling Dash Syndrome

Hi folks,

Recently bought a Japanese import 3.9V8 to replace my 300Tdi. Loving the V8 to bits ~ especially considering the price of LPG compared to diesel :-). Even managed to talk my insurance company into covering it on the basis it's the re-import of a UK built vehicle which was temporarily exported to Japan.

One niggly problem is the dreaded peeling dash syndrome which I remember being a well chewed over topic a few years back but I've not seen mentioned for a while. Does anyone know the best way to cure this problem?

IIRC you get a kit to screw the front edge back down.

 :cool:  Look on ebay you can pick them up from about  £30 brand new i got one for £20 took about 6 hours to fit  :dance:

mines got the same but i feel my dash has gotta come out to do the heater matrix an my mate has a td5 dash that aint peelin so that one will be goin in to replace mine :P

The plastic strip kits do work, but not all are the same. The one I have works ok but doesn't look great - I have seen others that look far neater.
1996 Discovery 300TDI. She's got it where it counts...

I'm watching one of these trim kits on eBay at the moment. It apppears to be a screw down jobby - does the windscreen have to come out to fit it?

Has anyone had any success glueing the dash back down?

fitted one of the screw down jobs to mine a couple of years back, and still looks OK. It was a pain to fit, i did it with the windcsreen still in, and to this day still haven't got all the screws in, but still works fine.

Like Andy I did mine a few years back, with the windscreen in...it was a pain and you need a right angled screw driver.  I found it easier to screw the peeling part down first and then fit the trim over it to cover the screws and neaten the edge

Listen, the way things are going at the moment I wouldn't be surprised if the bulkhead didn't peel up when I bolt this down  :twisted:

did mine too looks good , had to fettle the dash binnacle a little to fit , think i got some better quality screws to do the job , and as said cant be done without a 90 deg screwdriver , or a 1/4 drive ractchet and s/driver atachment . bit tight though. alan..

could always try a ratchet spanner and screwdriver bit, if you can get the screw to start, i think i have an adapter somewhere that fits in one of the spanners?

As has been said, it is a pain, but worth it, pretty much standard Landy ownership  ;)

ive just done the heater matrix an changed the dash in mine an to be honest it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be me an mate mate did it in a couple of hours at a leisurable pace i was quite suprised how easy it came out an went back together

I know PDS was pretty common back in the day but this is my 5th Discovery ... and the 1st to suffer from the affliction. Guess I've just been lucky until now  :D
