M.O.T. NEXT WEEK !!!!
« on: March 11, 2005, 22:10:40 »
Oh No. The test is due on the Range next week.

I had a quick look underneath to-day and    shock, horror, yes what a mess.

Because I do not really clean the car when I have been off-road, I haven't noticed the weeds, mud, and debris  tucked into places you would not believe

Into work in the morning. :(
Lift the car up on the forklift.
Stick some diesel in the steamer.
Stick loads of T.F.R. in a spray bottle.
Give it a good wash and hope for the best :!:

Any-thing to look out for that may fail the test ?
It flew through last year, and there have been no major problems in 12 months.

The chassis, bodymounts, and outriggers are all o.k. as well as the brakes.

I am putting the Range into a ' proper'  M.O.T. station.
After all, we all know some-one who can get M.O.T.'s for a drink, but what price do you put on your family's safety ?

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

SPIKEY.

7 Hours to clean my car  :!:

The boss 'phoned at 9 o-clock and said he would be late.
As I have got keys (GRR!) and was on my way to work,a delay was on the cards.
To cut the bad day short, this is what happened :

The forklift ran out of diesel.
I took the air -flow meter off the car BEFORE I cleaned the engine ( and wrapped all the plugs, dissy,  and sealed the plenum up etc.) and the car still did not start :!:

After an hour in the sun, the car fired up .

The axles, chassis, tank, arches, springs, shockers, and everything else are now clean

The only complaint from to-day is that the garage where I buy Red diesel from had run out to-day

10 quid to fill up half a jerrycan, instead of 7 and a half quid to fill the j/c up.

All in all, a Knackering unpaid day, making sure my old Vogue is fit for the road.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

SPIKEY. (washing his Range once a year :D )

Good luck on the test
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

They can, and often do, refuse to perform a test if the vehicle is "excessively dirty"

I know it's not the "fun" thing to say, but always wash your vehicle after it's been off-road... underneath and on top.  Mud holds all manner of nastiness against the chassis, bushes, paintwork, leads, hoses, etc, etc.

I hate seeing Land Rovers which haven't been cleaned for weeks.... for me, the fun is in *getting* them dirty, not letting them sit there and look neglected :-(

It's Passed :!:  :D  :D

Chassis all O.K.
Outriggers and sills O.K.
Light brakes and tyres O.K.
Emissions O.K.
Brake pipes O.K.
Bodymounts O.K.
No oil leaks ( Apart from the rear axle - blocked breather ? ) slight.

All in all I am pleased on the pass result.

The Tester commented on the cleanliness of the car.

I think the big clean up on Saturday stemmed from when I used to drive Class 1 H.G.V's for a living.

If you have ever presented a tractor unit for  a ministry test, you will know the standards required.

After the cleanup on Sat, I drove about 90 miles on Sunday, so any leaks etc. would have shown up.

1 safe car that can be used off-road, or driven on the motorway with the family in it.

Job Done :!:

Cheers,

SPIKEY.  ( Who WILL be cleaning the Range in future after going off road   :D )

A tip - Even though its not for road use - Watch what you say about using red diesel, you never know who is looking - Knock, knock
