hi everyone i need to do a gearbox change i do have a spare one but i need to replace the out put shaft which goes into the transferbox i will be using the one out of mine has anyone done it before the problem i have with mine is some times it goes into 4th instaed of 2nd and it is whinning in 3rd it all started yesturday when it would not go into any gear after trying to turn round and it went bang

now you say about going in 4th instead of second,and whinning in third,are you sure it isnt the h plate on the top of the gearbox,yesturday,thinking of it,when you had the problem,that could of been trying to go in two gears at once,which will happen if the plate has either moved or broken,the whinning in third maybe cause it isnt engaging properly,just a thought mate, :-k

i rebuilt my 380 . got all my bits from ashcroft . replaced brg's, seals and synchros . you have to replace the collar and set up the endfloat with selectable shims when you re build it . not an easy job so take it slow and make sure its right 1st time . make sure you give the oil filter a good clean out too.. think it cost me over £200 in bits so think weather its worth it although you hav another box to take bits from . i downloaded the rover manual but cant remember where from ,, alan
