Fitting discovery transfer box to early 110....
«

Anyone know how big a job this is? My 110 with a tdi in now screams its conkers off at 60mph and I am led to believe this is the best way forward. How much of a nitemare is it?
I take it I have to drop the box right off? Any way it can be done in situe?
Oh and, anyone got one they want to sell nice and cheap??

Got a Discovery transferbox in Winchester. £55. Best way is undo the bellhousing bolts, undo the props, undo the gearbox crossmember, handbrake cable and speedo cable.
Stick a trolley jack under it and lower it down. Be careful when you split the two boxes and put them back together and renew the seals when you do.

u can change transfer box in situ but if using a disco one u have to change the handbrake bracketry as it different i believe but i do have a v8 defender transfer box in my garage which is a 1.4 which is good an remember a 1.2 ratio transfer box will leave the car under powered if the 110 has over sized tyres ive got a 1.4 ratio transfer box with 200 tdi thats been tweaked with 33 inch tyres an will happly go down motorway doin 75 80 if needed without the engine screamin

So it can be done in situe then? I have access to the pit / transmision jacks etc at work so I wont be on my back... Looks like I need to find a disco transfer box nice and cheap then!
Im in St helens, so if anyone local ish has one to sell??? And I know what u mean about the go kart thing, goes like stink but is far too low geared! Doing the Mac 4x4 in under 2 weeks. not going to have time to sort it out before then so I think i might just invest in some ear plugs...

I did it last year with the 2.5 petrol complete with manifold blow last year, I dont think it will be that much louder... Ok so its much worse but what the hell. I did 160 miles in it yesterday so I know what I am getting myself into!
At least this year it should get up the hills, was awful last year. I remember changing down to first gear on some hills on the road last year, there was a moment where I thought I might need low box - on tarmac

Not to steal a thread or anything but....
I'm looking at converting a 2.5td into a 200 tdi, do i keep the gearbox and change transfer box and engine then?
If so is a mot fail disco best plan?
Cheers!

Take out engine put disco engine in easy !
The disco gearbox is to long, if you are changing the transfer box as well change the gear in it to a cross drilled one as oil can't get to the output shaft off the gearbox and it will wear out the shaft.
Try Ashcrofts they will tell you what you need to do.

How to replace the LT230 transfer box in a 90/110 :)
http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=14601&st=0#entry150884
Whatever you do - don't forget to put a bead of sealant between the mating faces of the gear cases.
