on most laptops, it's a case of removing a few little rubber nipples around the screen and then pulling out a couple of cables to do a very simple straight replace.  I've not taken on the 1521 dell rigs apare, but most are desinged in a way to allow easy replacement of parts.  If it's broken already, investigate the screws neeed, and find there is only two little cables that slot into the screen.  Dead easy to replace, if you can source the right replacement.

Agreed its easy. Last one I did was about 1 hours or less. Screen was sourced on ebay for about £50

You made need to google to make sure you know all the model numbers that a sepecifc screen is in as that will help narrow it down.

dont forget you cal allways use an external monitor in the mean time if you need to use the laptop (Obvious but iv worked in IT long enought to know its easy to forget things like this when you suddenly find your life wont boot up!)

the touchpads on most HP machines have two connectors to the board, and four screws on the underside of the laptop.  You'll also need to click the three clips at the top of the keyboard so you can pop the keyboard out to get to the board connectors.  It's a fifteen to twenty minute job max.
