E Mail from LRO
« on: March 03, 2009, 18:27:25 »
 Hi all.
I got this from LRO earlier. Seems a little odd to me. Surely if dont know if there is a show at Billing this year you could ask on here or check the LRO website or buy the magazine. Just seems strange that LRO say they have been contacted by a number of people who obviously thought that there was no show at Billing and bought tickets for Newark. Why didnt they contact LRO before they bought tickets for Newark to see if Billing was on??

Methinks there might be a bit of fun and games going on with LRO trying to get people to change from Newark to Billing by offering  in effect swop their tickets for a fiver.

Or is it just my suspicious nature ;)

Dear Land Rover enthusiast

LRO has been contacted recently by a number of people regarding the Billing Show in July. They had been given information stating there would be no show at Billing this year and so had purchased tickets, in good faith, for the Land Rover Max event at Newark on the same weekend.

As there will be a show at Billing this year, on the 17-19th July, which LRO will be supporting, we thought it would be an appropriate gesture to offer a significant reduction on the ticket costs at Billing for those people who bought tickets for Land Rover Max under the wrong impression that Billing was not happening.

Therefore, anyone who has purchased adult tickets for Land Rover Max, who would rather go to the LRO Billing Show can send in their Land Rover Max tickets to Live Promotions
(the organisers of Billing) and those tickets will be substituted for LRO Billing Show tickets at a cost of only £5 each. LRO Billing Show tickets are normally £12 in advance.

This offer will only be open to Land Rover Max ticketholders who send in their tickets to Live Promotions at the address below by 5pm on Monday March 9th.

Post tickets to:
LRO Billing Show, Live Promotions Events Ltd, Riverside Quay, Double Street, Spalding, Lincolnshire, PE11 2AB, cheques payable to Live Promotions Events Ltd or put your telephone number and covering letter with the tickets in the post and Live Promotions will call you back for credit card payments.

For normal advance ticket bookings call 0871 2307152 or go to www.lroshow.com

Bit it's a time limited offer aswell. Just a week. I think it's so LRO can say that LRM can not say the numbers of people going to it's show as LRO will hold some of the tickets.

If LRO were going to do this why did it not just offer tickets for £5??

Oh its definately a thingumy!!

LRO want to get their own back on LRM as the people who have contacted LRO will have most likely been told that Billing is no longer being used cos LRM are moving to Newark.

But think it might cause a magazine war! lol

I don't know about the games they are playing but when you think about it, its us the paying landrover fans that miss out when they play leaking contests between two mags.

Wouldn't it be funny if we all stuck 2 fingers up to both shows and no one turned up, that would teach them to play games with us.

Think so, both venues arranged the same weekend one Billing and one at Kelmarsh Hall, a stones throw away from each other, or was Billing moving there  :?

We haven't decided which one to attend for the weekend, I like Billing and know it has gone down hill, though Newark Showground is only 20 mins from home.

ive been watching the various posts around this subjetc and I agree, either boycott them both or at least one.
After all , they make BIG money out of these events and lets face it, if you get the grounds/location all the traders will come etc and so its easy money and free advertising for them.

I say boycott both.

For the thick ones amongst us. Can someone break it down to what on earth is going on here, it seems all too complicated!!

Billing aquadrome was home to "the" Land Rover show for many years under the guise of the LRO show when there was only one show, and really only one magazine.

Times moved on, and there started up other shows and the aquadrome was sold on to new owners,  over the years the show has changed hands from LRO to LRE (I'm not going into the politics here) and it was eventually decided that the show had outgrown the aquadrome site, which due to pressure from more static caravans had seen the amount of space available decline, the site (and show) had also become plagued with security issues and poor facilities (showers, toilets etc)

LRE then arranged to move the show to Kelmesh, primarily to address most of the above concerns.  However, for a variety of reasons (again, no politics) Billing Aquardome asked for another magazine to run a show at the site, to replace the one which had been moved.  Both of these shows were organised for the same weekend.

Plenty of two and froing occurred, and as it seemed that most traders and visitors were going to attend the show at the aquadrome and so the Kelmarsh show was cancelled.

Now, we're a year or so on, and the current organisers (who took over the aquadrome show after it was moved to Kelmarsh) have decided for a variety of reasons to move it to Newark.  Billing Aquadrome have once again decided to ask for assistance in running the show once again,  so once again we're left with two shows on the same weekend :(

Basically it comes down to a choice between the known deficiencies of the show at Billing Aquadrome, or the risk of a "new" show, or at least a new show ground.

I don't know the ins and outs of it, but if the dates were purposely chosen to coincide by one or other of the organisers, how do they expect it to be anything but bad news? At best, they halve their possible revenue. At worst, they have to cancel and loose any investment they've made in advance.

I believe (although don't have much evidence to support this) that both times it has been the show organisers having moved away from the aquadrome and the aquadrome has arranged for another show to happen on the same weekend, presumably on the premise that the majority of people will go to Billing because "it's billing".

In the words of a good friend of ours "as long as there's a blade of grass left at Billing Aquadrome someone will try to run a Land Rover show on it"

I think we should get together as a group and make a stand against the two shows being run at the same time.
If we all stopped buying the mags and going to the shows then they would not be around for long.

Except.....

If too many people stopped buying the mags and going to the shows, they would be put out of business and there wouldn't be mags or shows. Which would you prefer, the problem of choosing which show to go to or no shows at all?

And the dirty tactics don't stop there as most of you know we are organising the Land Rover Clear Out this year and the Mud Club birthday bash so we have been speaking to a lot of traders and the farmer from the off road site at billing and it turns out that most of the traders still do not know where they are going .Apparently most of the traders had a meeting a few weeks ago to try and sort something but you had LRO driving up and down with banners telling them to come to billing  BUT LRM have since been down to the billing site in heavy rain and took pictures of the mud and sent them to the traders asking is this really where you want to be trading from  .I think we should boycott them both and spend all your money at this years Land Rover Clear Out at The Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon in May or make lots of money by selling all your old parts  :D

The last letter I got from LRO was signed as from "Landrover Owner Magazine".  You'd have thought they'd have got both the name of their own magazine and the brand name on which they depend right.
